What is the Procedure Like?

The Procedure is completely non-invasive and performed by a certified female technician.

About The Procedure

  • The Procedure is completely non-invasive and performed by a certified female technician.
  • The procedure starts with pre-thermographic imaging instructions that must be followed before your appointment.
  • You will be asked to complete a breast health history form and then will meet with the certified technician to review your breast health history.
  • The procedure begins with a visual inspection of the surface of the breasts. This is a standard procedure that correlates any surface findings with the infrared images.
  • You will be left for a 15 minute temperature acclimation period. (During this time, you will disrobe from the waist up in a special temperature controlled room).
  • Once your body has reached a steady temperature state in equilibrium with the special temperature conditions of the room, you will be positioned in front of the imaging system so that all of the surfaces of the breasts, under arms and upper chest are imaged.

After the images have been analyzed, they are graded using a strict standardized reading protocol. Each breast’s image is placed into one of five thermobiological (TH) categories:

  • TH 1 – Normal uniform non-vascular
  • TH 2 – Normal uniform vascular
  • TH 3 – Equivocal (questionable)
  • TH 4 – Abnormal
  • TH 5 – Severely abnormal
Breast Thermography Guidelines
  • Baseline thermogram at age 20
  • 20 – 30 years of age: Every 3 years
  • 30 years of age and over: Every year
